Indore metro will come with underground routes to help ease traffic woes!

In a rapidly growing B-town like Indore, where landscapes are expanding at a great rate, a metro line would soon become a necessity. Even though the planning has been going on for a long time, there still isn’t any update regarding the completion of the project. The proposed route is said to cover a total length of more than 4.5kms. Read further to know more regarding the Indore metro project’s timeline and features.

Initially, the project started with an overall proposed length on 2kms but soon it was realized that it needed to be extended. The extension was necessary as due to the town side crowded areas like Bada Ganpati, constructing the elevated metro line wouldn’t be feasible as it would halt the traffic and affect the daily commute of a larger population.

The new route is proposed to stretch from Bada Ganpati square till airport through Rajwada. The town side of the city is highly crowded, and hence the metro shall solve the problem of traffic in such areas as a lot of people would resort to the metro for the commute. The recent planning changes suggest that the new metro line would stretch and overall 29kms which would mostly be elevated. Moreover, foot-over bridges and pathways would be built to connect the metro to the airport and railway station for easy transit of passengers.

As per UIPTP, Government of India approved metro projects in two cities in the state of Madhya Pradesh – Bhopal and Indore. Total estimated cost of the project in both cities is around INR 14.5 crores and the project will be partly funded by the central government.

Indore is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation and metro would surely help get a higher stature. The proposed first phase of Indore metro is said to be functional by 2023. The third phase, however, would cover major parts of the city expanding over 31kms of length.

Much like other prominent transit systems in other A-grade cities, metro service in Indore would be a prominent development benchmark. Also, being under the smart city criteria, the metro would help thousands of people across the city to commute hassle-free. Overall, the motive is to place Indore amongst top metro cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, etc.
