Celebrating the spirit of women : Palak Muchhal, social activist & playback singer

Hailing from Indore, this young lady is not just a pretty voice, she has been performing on various stage shows across India and abroad to raise funds for the poor children who need financial assistance for heart-related ailments. So much so that she has managed to raise enough funds to have saved lives of 1400 plus children suffering from heart ailments. You must have guessed it, we are talking about – Palak Muchhal, who has made her entry in both Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of World Records for great achievements in social work. Her work is also recognized by the Government of India and other public institutions through various awards and honours.

Palak is also the ‘face of the State Icon’ in MP for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

A well-known playback singer in Bollywood films, Palak started singing when she was four years old. She has been trained in Indian classical music, and has rendered her voice in Hindi films like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012), ‘Aashiqui 2’ (2013), ‘Kick’ (2014) and ‘Action Jackson’ (2014), ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ (2015), ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ (2016) and ‘Kaabil’ (2017), Loveyatri (2018), Baaghi 2, and for so many other albums.

Palak can sing in 17 different languages which includes Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Oriya, Assamese, Rajasthani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sindhi and Malayalam.

Not just a girl with big dreams, Palak always had an innate sense of serving those in need, and she used her talent to fulfil that. Let’s take you through events in her life that have been celebrated far and wide.

Some inspiring and note-worthy facts about Palak Muchhal 

  1. Palak became a member of ‘Kalyanji-Anandji’ Little Star, a group of young singers, when she was four years old.

  2. During the Kargil War of 1999, at the age of seven, she spent a week singing at shops in her hometown, Indore, to raise funds for the families of deceased Indian soldiers. Her efforts received substantial coverage in Indian media and she raised ₹25,000!

  3. Later in the same year, she sang to raise funds for victims of the 1999 Odisha cyclone.

  4. She used a street vendor’s cart as a stage for an event and collected ₹51,000 towards the cost of surgery of a young boy – Lokesh. The publicity prompted Bangalore-based cardiologist, Devi Prasad Shetty, to operate on Lokesh free of charge.

  5. A series of charity shows were arranged later in that year, from which ₹225,000 were raised.

  6. Seeing Palak devoting her heart and soul to the cause, Choithram Hospital, Indore halved the cost of surgery from ₹80,000 to ₹40,000 and one of its surgeons, Dhiraj Gandhi, decided to waive his fee for cases brought in by Muchhal.

  7. Since 2000, Palak has travelled extensively in India and abroad for her charity show, “Dil Se Dil Tak”. Her younger brother, Palash, performs in the same shows with the intent of raising funds for children who have kidney ailments.

  8. On average, Palak s ings around 40 songs in each show which includes popular Bollywood songs, Ghazals and Bhajans.

  9. In 2001 Palak raised around one million rupees for the victims of 2001 Gujarat earthquake.

  10. In July 2003, Muchhal offered financial assistance through her charity funds to parents of a two-year-old Pakistani girl who had a hole in the heart.

  11. The “Palak Muchhal Heart Foundation” foundation has financially assisted over 200 children in undergoing heart surgery.

  12. To ensure that operations of children do not stop due to lack of money, Bhandari Hospital in Indore has allowed an overdraft of up to one million rupees to Palak Muchhal Heart Foundation.

  13. In 2006 Muchhal was one of the five heroic stories broadcast by Star Gold channel as part of its “Rang De Basanti Salaam” initiative.

  14. The very talented singer of Indore Palak Mucchhal will be the face of the State Icon of MP in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 Elections.

In all her initiatives to save people suffering from heart related ailments, Palak and her parents do not receive any financial benefits from the charity shows, and even after entering Bollywood her conviction and ideology are still the same. Her quest to save children is still on and going strong.
