Mahindra, Indore is Making Thousands of Face Shields for Healthcare Workers Everyday!

Going a notch higher to combat the outbreak of coronavirus, auto company Mahindra & Mahindra is assembling face shields at its Pithampur plant. Face shields serve as a protective gear which is used to prevent infection to health workers while treating COVID-19 patients. It is being supplied to health workers and other frontline warriors fighting pandemic.

The company’s two-wheeler manufacturing plant at Pithampur is assembling face shields. The production capacity of which is around 1,500 per day. 

Other than the Pithampur plant, Face shields for medical service providers are being made at Kandivali facility in Maharashtra. The raw materials are sourced from Maharashtra and the Face shields produced at Pithampur is distributed within the state. 

Hitherto, the company has distributed a total of around 8,000 face shields to police, MY hospital and chief medical health officer Dhar. The company will continue to make these and supply them to Indore/MP and beyond. As far as the demand is concerned, it has been overwhelming.

Since the raw material is procured from Maharashtra, the main challenge was interstate transportation but both Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh state authorities helped succeed in the process. Other than face shields, the company is also producing hand sanitisers and affordable ventilators at its other plants. 

In addition to this, Mahindra has also opened the kitchen of the Pithampur plant. This kitchen provides food and ration packets to migrant workers and local communities. So far, the company has served over 1,000 meal packets.
