This 20 YO Indian Youtuber is one of the 10 Next Generation Leaders quoted by TIME magazine!

Indian YouTuber Ajey Nagar aka Carry Minati has been named in the list of top 10 ‘Next Generation Leaders’ 2019 by the eminent Time magazine! The ‘Next Generation Leader’ is a list of 10 young people from around the world who are establishing new paths in politics, music and other spheres. That’s a reputable position to be achieved by a young Youtuber.

Alongside Ajey, other young leaders on TIME’s list of the Next Generation Leader, is 16-year old Greta Thunberg from Sweden who has become one of the most powerful voices on climate change and demanding action, famously declaring during her speech to the UK Houses of Parliament that “You did not act in time”.

Ajey Nagar’s journey to fame

He got a major career boost in January 2019, when his diss track against controversial Swedish YouTuber Felix Kjellberg (famously PewDiePie), went viral. Many Indians, including Ajey Nagar, took offense when PewDiePie released a video that mocked the use of broken English by an Indian man. In a video released on 1st January 2019, titled “Bye PewDiePie,” Ajey rapped in Hindi to tell PewDiePie that “one day, India will rule the whole world.” His goal, he says, was to inspire Indians to stand up to anyone who ridiculed their culture and embrace their identity instead. Ever since the motivation has been a driving force for Ajey to produce videos in Hindi.

As a matter of fact, PewDiePie has over 95 million subscribers and has been in a race against T-Series to retain his title of most subscribed YouTube channel.

India has seen a massive rise in the number of Youtubers through the years. With about 265 million monthly users, India overtook the US in 2018 to become the country with the biggest YouTube audience in the world.

Coming back to this YouTube sensation, while Tom Cruise was in Paris to promote his film ‘Mission Impossible’, he chatted with India’s biggest YouTubers CarryMinati. Talking about his experience, a report in Statesman quoted him as saying “I was quite excited to meet him. It’s like a dream come true. I found him to be a very cool and humble person, smiling and voluntarily clicking pictures with everyone. He spoke to me about how he really likes India and the people here and also about the experience of being a part of Mission Impossible.

He cracked up while talking about how he performed all the stunts himself and how he has ended up breaking his bones numerously while performing them. Some reports even state the when Ajey Nagar steps out of his house, he has to wear a hoodie to disguise himself. He often bumps into teen fans who want to click pictures alongside him. Like we said nearly 7 million people subscribe to the 20-year-old’s YouTube channel, and the fan following is immense.

Ajey believes that his popularity lies in his ability to stay connected to his roots and he remains reluctant to change in order to appeal to Westerners, or even switching his language. “I want to send out the message that you should be yourself. If you try to be someone else, you won’t find acceptance”, he says.
