What is the history of the current Parliament House?
The existing Parliament House was built during the British period, which is circular and one of the most admired monuments of India. Officials say the building will be used for repairs and renovations, among other things. Its construction began in 1921 and was completed six years later. Two floors were added to it in 1956 due to the demand for more space.
Earlier this year, the government upheld its decision to construct a new parliament building. It was then said that the existing building is showing signs of distress and overuse. The government also said that the Lok Sabha is likely to have more numbers after the reorganization of the constituencies. But the existing building did not have room for additional members. For this new big building will be required.
