Prime Minster Narendra Modi had announced his vision to set up 100 smart cities across the country. The 100 smart cities mission intends to promote adoption of smart solutions for efficient use of available assets, resources and infrastructure. A smart city will be equipped with basic infrastructure to give a decent quality of life, a clean and sustainable environment through application of some smart solutions. Indore, too was one of those 100 cities which was proposed to be a Smart City and now it is just getting closer to the vision that our Prime Minister had envisioned.

The efforts of the officials and the zeal of Indorians to make a change in the city has always been evident. The latest and the most appropriate example would be the cleaner roads and construction of toilets. And it is just not limited to keeping the litter off the road, there are many things running side by side to make this city cleaner, greener and simply more amazing. One of those things is to make Indore city, which is an educational hub boasting an IIM and an IIT, is now on the fast track to become a smart city.

The international status which the airport of Indore was given, the metro is developing as well, and soon, there is a plan to construct 5 major roads across Indore. This development will certainly herald a new era of transportation in the city.

However, just like the growth rate, the population of Indore is also expanding at a higher rate resulting in traffic jams. Roads are jam packed and getting from one point to another is nothing less than a chore. Hence, the construction of new roads will help with the traffic issues and make the city future proof as well.
All of the 5 roads coming up in the city will be constructed in the major parts of the city, to ensure that they do not pose a problem into the future. These proposed projects are construction and development of RI-2 (from Bhuri Tekri to Nemawar Road via New RTO Office), MR-5 (From Indore Wire Factory to Bada Bangarda), MR-3 (from Pipliyapala to Bypass) and MR-9 (from IDA Scheme-53 to Bypass). The goal is to have these roads ready by 2021.

However, the roads will take some time to complete and that could be a major issue for daily commuters. But, the residents of Indore have always showed their support and zeal for the betterment of the city. And this time, too, they will withstand few obstacles. The authorities, too will ensure that bypass routes are made to make matters convenient for commuters. Surely, the residents see this as more of a boon than a bane for the city as a whole.
Hitherto, only proposals for the roads have been put into place. Once the budget plan for the roads is given, the government will push the move accordingly. The roads will especially benefit residents in and around the areas where they are being built. The upcoming roads will take a while to come up but we are glad that the development is here to make the city better and more future proof than ever before. Also, it is only the beginning to achieve what lies ahead for the greater good of the city. If officials and residents of Indore city continues to work together like they have done in the past, Indore will not just become a Smart City but will set an example of how things are achieved efficiently.
