We love summers; hot days raging with nostalgia, with days talking lazy air conditioned rooms, ice-creams, lazy weekends, long trips. But these seem good Summers are a bit scary especially for our skin. Sun’s heat and humidity may result in more than a skin tan – acne, rashes, oily skin, etc. We need to change our skincare routine these days. People concerned with their skin often wash their face whenever possible, they carry wipes, and do whatever is possible to save their skins in summers.

A little bit of effort goes a long way when it comes to skincare. By following some basic skincare rules and spending a little bit of time on your skin every day, you can continue to look your best even in the hottest of summer days.

Follow the following steps to healthy skin in these summers:

    1. Cleanse your face with a facial cleanser or wash twice a day. During summers tiny pores present on our skin ejects skin oils. When bacteria attack these oils they block these pores and result in acne. Using a suitable facewash helps remove these oils and dirt and hence prevents acne. For deep cleaning use a facial cleanser.
    2. Use exfoliation and mud face packs to rejuvenate the skin. Exfoliating means removing dead skin cells. Dead skin cells are a result of harmful UV radiations and may cause the skin to look pale. We can even make exfoliating face packs at home using fruits and vegetables. The best idea is to make a face pack using papaya pulp. One can also use pulp from tomatoes as a substitute. Mud face packs scrub off dirt particles, oils, and dead skin cells.
    3. Reduce your shaving routines by half! The Harmful UV rays are leaving no time for your skin to repair.
    4. Use after shave gel or liquid for a fresh feel. After shaves keep you fresh and their fragrance lasts longer. Just splash the liquid on your face or apply the gel directly. Most of the after shaves contain methyl alcohol which helps the skin to repair faster.
    5. Moisturize your skin with a soothing aloe vera gel or hydrating creams which are light and non-sticky. Moisturizers prevent the skin from drying. They also promote facial hair growth.

    Tackling summer acne

No one likes acne! Once you are prone to acne, it gets really difficult to rid of. People with clear skin are blessed, but you can work towards that yourself. Get rid of sweaty and dirty clothes at the earliest. Change your clothes and take a quick bath after a day in the sun. Always stick to light, breathable clothing in the Summer season. Take care of gut health seriously, and never forget to wash your face after driving a two wheeler or after spending too much time outside.

Other than following a healthy cleaning, toning and moisturizing routine, drinking a lot of water and keeping yourself hydrated through the day will help you flush out the toxins. If you’re prone to acne, it might also be a good idea to accessorize smartly to avoid the sun. Cover up your head when you go out with a summer cap or a cloth piece if you are comfortable, don’t forget to wear sunglasses, and put sunscreen.

But if none of this works and you still end up with a few angry pimples, avoid popping them and simply apply an acne-reducing cream instead.

Foods to eat for healthy skin

Your skin reflects what you eat. Just hydration won’t help if you eat out everyday, consume oily food, or don’t look out for your overall health. Make yourself infused water with with cucumber, mint, lemon, ginger, apple etc., which are loaded with vitamins and minerals. These have a sense of taste and freshness in them that hydrates the body, provides nutrition, and imparts good metabolism. Drinking this in place of regular water can help you in the Summers and can make a big difference.

Why treat pigmentation in the first place when it can be avoided? Summer fruits provide you with phyto-nutrients to give your dull complexion a natural boost. If you’re going grocery shopping, don’t forget to load up on mangoes, tomatoes, spinach, lychees, pumpkins and carrots. Fruits rich in vitamin C like kiwis and watermelons also help in rejuvenating your skin and protecting it from pigmentation.

Summers are synonymous to mangoes, but don’t forget that Summer is also the best time to have fresh juices. Fresh vegetable juices like beetroot, jamun, cold brew teas, lemon water and the like add some freshness and hydration to your diet. These give a boost to your skin. We also recommend enriching your body on the inside with healthy oils and fats that can be found in walnuts, avocado, nuts, and olives. These provide Omega-3 fatty acids and improve the elasticity of the skin.

These simple ways can effectively help you take care of your skin without investing much. Make this a routine and easily get through summers without the acne woes, or breakouts in general.
