Namkeen Industry Joins Hands to Fight COVID-19 in M.P.

The extension of the coronavirus lockdown till May 3 has brought massive challenges for the district administration as well as Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) in ensuring distribution of raw food packets among the poor and needy while maintaining all possible safety precautions.

Authorities have come out with a separate plan to do the same with the help of prominent namkeen manufacturers of Indore. Some of these manufacturers have already started assisting IMC in the packaging of raw food items at their respective factories by using their own machinery and resources. A team of some 500 workers who are engaged in packaging of raw food items such as rice, pulses, sugar in a fixed quantity, and the same were being distributed among the helpless and needy people.

As many as 15,000-20,000 raw food packets on a daily basis are being prepared with the help of workers manually. Now, around three of the prominent namkeen manufacturers of Indore have been roped in to assist in the packaging of raw food packets using their own machinery as they are not in use due to the Covid lockdown.

Around 75 tonnes of raw food items are being used in preparing food packets. On a daily basis, as many as 10,000 packets are being prepared, taking the daily figure to up to 25,000. IMC has so far distributed ration packets to 1.80 lakh families.
