Women grooming is a no-brainer, Men grooming even though not taken seriously by a great percentage, is a sign of good manners. The ever so macho image of men with hairy armpits, smelly socks and un-groomed nails was once deemed as carelessness, or even “ladkey toh aise hee hotey hain” . It’s 2019, guys! While women are up and running, balancing everything from work to home, there’s absolutely no excuse for men to be lying down as couch potatoes and ignoring the basics. A well groomed man, is definitely a delight, just like a good smelling woman is (well, women always smell good, ahem!). So, if the pretty lady at the gym gym doesn’t notice you ever, your landlord’s daughter is a far-fledged dream, or no one is keen on joining you in the lift, maybe it’s about time you take notice of your grooming habits.
The trick isn’t to spend a fortune on a thousand different products, or to lock yourself in the bathroom for hours at a time. Rather, you should develop a daily routine that is quick, simple and – above all else – about maintenance, ensuring you don’t let yourself (or your carefully assembled outfit) down with unsightly hair or bad body odor.
Go For Regular Trims
For some men Sundays are booked for a little routine that involves a shave, hair trim at the barber’s, and chilling in pyjamas. While some choose to ignore the cut and shave. A decent hairstyle and a groomed face will definitely earn your brownie points, however it’s a whole different world if you still like saggy jeans, and the out-of-bed look. Men, ladies love mannered guys. It’s true!
Invest In Some Basic Hair Products
No, this won’t make you any less of a man. If you have a beard, and/or a moustache, a good wax to tame flyways is a good start. A hair masque is another great product to use to maintain your hair. And lastly, don’t ignore dandruff if you have any. A good clay face-wash is also a great idea to detoxify your skin and to keep your T-zone oil free.
Find Yourself A Signature Scent
A good perfume not only keeps your mood uplifted but is also counted as good manners. We are not saying that you splurge on an exotic perfume, just find yourself a basic scent that isn’t overpowering. Bad odour makes everyone around you uncomfortable, it’s best to keep a good perfume/deodorant in your office/school/gym bag to avoid being alienated just because your sweat smells.
Maintain Oral Hygiene
No matter how many times we stress on it, oral hygiene is so, so important! Everyone brushes their teeth in the morning no surprise there. But keeping a mouthwash handy, flossing regularly, and maintaining a good breath is absolutely a must these days. It obviously counts as manners, and is an essential part of maintaining overall well being.
Invest In Good Shoes
Well, a man’s shoes speak first. A good pair of shoes will not only add charm to your outfit, but is also a great way to come across as someone sophisticated. No matter how airy chappals are, owning good pair of shoes, and diligently wearing them on occasions as needed is a great step as coming across well groomed.
Scrub Your Face
A scrub once in a while is a great way to exfoliate dead skin. Use a microbead-free scrub once a week to scrub the weekend off your face, and every other day of the week go for a plain face wash that’s less rough. You’ll be looking better than you feel in no time.
Get A Professional Shave Once In A While
You might not have time in the morning for an extensive wet-shaving routine, but learning the basics of a good shave is important. Preparing your skin beforehand with a shave oil will help the razor glide over your hair, while soaking the blades in warm water will help your pores expand, allowing the hair to come off your face with less redness and irritation. If it still feels like a chore, leave your precious face in the hands of the experts and get a professional shave once a week.
Pedicures Are Not ‘Girly’
They might not be on show that often, but a good footcare routine is still important. Take care of them after a bath or shower (when the skin is softest) using a pummice stone on any dead skin, before lathering a generous amount of moisturiser on.
Tackle Dark Circles
Look, we all made our peace with moisturizing years ago. But the stuff you use on your face is still too much for those patches under your eyes, where dark circles and puffiness reveal your heavy weekend and make you look under-slept and older than you are. Incorporate an eye cream or roll-on into your morning routine to help counter the problem.
Wear A Sunscreen
It’s not just for the ladies. The sun will equally harm your skin, obviously. Please wear a sunscreen to avoid early aging and even wrinkles.
Wash Your Face Before Bed
Ever notice how your girlfriend has her elaborate cleanse-tone-moisturize before bed routine in place? Well, that’s there for a reason. It not only helps get rid of the all grime, dust, and impurities your face has accumulated all day, it also helps prevent acne, dry flaky skin, and uneven skin tone. Just washing your face and moisturizing it after will make you feel nice, fresh, and clean.
After-all, why should women do all the impressing? 😉
