As team Indore HD is always up for adventure, this time we decided to find a place near Indore that gives us a chance to enjoy the beauty of the nature while venturing deep into the forests. After doing bit of a research and taking lot of places into consideration, we zeroed Gidh Khoh.
History of Gidh Khoh
The name might sound bit confusing and not related to the place, but this was once an area where a lot of Vultures migrated and stayed and this was the main reason why the place got its name. History aside, this place has one of the best forest and trek around Indore where you must spend your weekend at least once.
Gidh Khoh is remotely located and you need to make sure you are Carrying a GPS enabled device with you. To reach Gidh Khoh, you have to take Nemavar Road – Fali Village and Sivni to reach Janakpur. From there, you have to turn right to reach Bhadkiya Village. After reaching the village, you have to travel a bit to the interior side till you reach the government school. Park your car at Govt School and Head for the trek. GPS works pretty accurate till Janakpur.
There is steep trek till the waterfall and is almost 4 kms long. The whole trek is full of beautiful flora and fauna and the path is lush green. To reach to the main path that starts about 2 kms before the waterfall, you have to cross a stream and it is advisable that you carry a stick with you to gauge the depth of the stream at some areas. There is a single stream that runs along the path and you have to cross it twice.
After crossing the stream, you have to trek for another 2 kms till you reach at the start of the fall. The whole area is breathtakingly beautiful and dangerous at the same time. The waterfall is more than 650 feet deep and as the place is not visited by frequent travelers, there are no railings, or protection around the fall and it is highly advisable that you follow extreme caution. If you are visiting the waterfall in weekdays, be prepared to be alone in that area and you won’t find anyone near 5-6 kms. Once you have reached the start of the fall, you might not get the whole view of it and to take the view of the fall from the front, you have to trek for another 500-600 meters before you reach to the front of the waterfall.
The treks is tough and exhausting but trust us, the view that waits at the end of it makes it all worthwhile. You could sit there for hours watching the waterfall in awe. There are also little streams along the way that end in small waterfalls and there isn’t a single place in the whole area that is not interesting.
