Under the river cleaning project, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is now planning to make use of aquatic weed harvesters for the purpose of cleaning rivers and water bodies in and around the city. This plan comes under the banner of IMC’s preparations for the approaching Swacch Survekshan 2020.
The use of aqua harvesters by urban local bodies for the cleaning of water bodies is one of the important criteria under Swachh Survekshan 2020, which has prompted them to procure one.
The department is considering to procure aquatic weed harvester for removal of weeds like algae from water bodies after rains. They are already going on with river cleaning work and after rains, this harvester can make this task easy for the staff as it is an aquatic machine specifically designed for inland watercourse management to cut and collect underwater weeds, reeds, and other aquatic plant life.
If all goes well, one such weed harvester would be procured within a week. Hitherto, the civic body carries out manual cleaning of water bodies like Pipliyahana pond and Sirpur Lake as well as from Kanh and Saraswati rivers once or twice a year.
This work takes a month or so and at least 30-40 dumpers of weeds or water hyacinth are removed from these water bodies.
We are hoping the city reaches even greater heights with these new initiatives.
