Considered to be one of the best tourist destinations in MP, Mandu has a myriad of beautiful places to visit and now, with an encouraging step by the state government, Mandu festival adds to its beauty. The festival has been a cherry on the cake as it has boosted the local economy and attracted encouraging footfall. However, it fell short on anticipated foreign and outstation tourists. Guides believe that an improved infrastructure can turn the spot into a round the year destination.
As per the statistics, this year around 40,000 tourists flocked the historical city during the seven-day long festival mostly from Indore and nearby places. However, the average footfall of foreign tourists in Mandu is about 10. If provided and clubbed with plans to improve upon infrastructure, it will act as a boost to the current number of footfalls.
Hitherto, Mandu has become a seasonal destination with maximum footfall during the New Year. Mandu festival attracted a lot of local tourists but foreigners were less. Proper publicity and improvement in transportation can help a lot.
October to April is the peak tourist season for Mandu. Free of cost tourist buses were the main attraction this year as tourists were accompanied by guides and were shown many historical places. Such arrangements should be made throughout to promote tourism.
The state government has decided to conduct the next Mandu festival for 10 days from December 25, 2020, to January 3, 2021.
Such festivals provide a platform for equal opportunities to artists, artisans, indigenous and folk-art forms, performers and others besides local traders raising their daily earnings considerably and positively impacting the overall socio-economic environment of the location.
