Once known as an oasis, the Bilawali lake is now losing its glory. In an attempt to restore the beauty of the lake, ensuring its cleaning and maintenance, the designated authorities in Indore have been actively working towards its restoration, and establishing it as a water sports hub.
The overdue maintenance of the lake now shows through its dilapidated condition and the lack of a proper embankment. We are hoping the “tourist spot” that will be will help direct the authority’s attention towards the once flourishing lake premises.
According to reports, the main idea is to convert the Bilawali lake into a hub for water adventure sports. Indore which is majorly landlocked doesn’t have many places closer to the city for any adventure sports. If the restoration goes well, many adrenaline junkies will be able to satiate the adventurer in them by practicing different water sports. In a bid to make the lake pleasant for the tourists, the premises will also be maned and made appealing. The overall surface area of the lake will also be increased.
Once known as a flourishing water resource for the adjoining areas, the Bilawali lake took a sad turn and now struggles with water levels as well. The pond is said to be linked with adjoining water bodies so as to increase the water levels. A full-fledged plan to attract tourists that includes kiosks, food carts, is underway!
The green belt adjoining the area is said to be replenished as well. The already existing fauna will get a new lease of life, and considering how seriously the city’s authorities are taking plantation drives, the place will soon see a new landscape altogether.
With an influx of tourists visiting M.P, the Bilawali lake can sure be one of the attractions in the coming times. It is said that a budget of 30 crores has been assigned for the project. This is to include the infrastructure for adventure sports, and will also be used for nearby land’s agricultural needs.

Being one of the sources for freshwater, and with subsequently cooling temperatures, the lake which is the biggest in the city must be conserved, especially in a time where climate change is real. Water conservation and maintaining water sources should be the topmost priority of cities nearing a massive concrete jungle.
The lake has also helped to keep the nearby temperatures down by at least two degrees. In Summers where the Malwa plateau gets a serious hit, the lake acts as a respite for several. Both as recreation and as a water resource. A few years back IMC had dug deeper to increase the overall levels of the lake and had also worked on a defined embankment.
The lake has been serving the locals for the longest time, and it is nothing short than applaudable that the authorities have finally noticed and are taking active interest in the same. The tourism in Indore will also see a boost once the lake is open to adventure sports.
