In order to strengthen the motto of Greener Indore, Indore Municipal Corporation’s (IMC) sanitation inspectors will soon be seen making rounds in their wards on eco-friendly battery-operated scooters.
After providing e-cars to its assistant engineer and junior engineer-level employees, the civic body now plans to give e-bikes to sanitation inspectors of all 85 wards to reduce fuel costs.
These e-scooters will be bought with the help of a private bank that has agreed to fund this project under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) work.
Furthermore, riding e-scooters to sanitation inspectors will strengthen the monitoring work on the ground, and also help in reducing fuel and vehicle maintenance costs incurred by the corporation, especially during Swachh Survekshan.
These scooters are expected to cover a distance of at least 65km on a single charge, and it would take around four hours to re-charge.
The sanitation inspectors have to move on fields for monitoring purposes, and they are given at least 15-20 liter fuel every month. And giving them e-scooters would not only save fuel expense borne by IMC but also encourage them to work more efficiently.
Other than this, there are further plans to equip these e-scooters with a global positioning system (GPS) which would allow the corporation to track their movement on a real-time basis, which in turn, would also promote an eco-friendly mode of transport in the city.
The announcement comes nearly four months after Bhopal Municipal Corporation introduced a fleet of 200 electric scooters to monitor its solid waste management operations across the state capital.
A proposal for setting up solar-powered charging stations was also proposed by the BMC to provide easy charging options for its health inspectors.
– E-bikes will be assigned to all the Sanitation inspectors (darogas) of all 85 wards of the city.
– E-bikes will run at a top speed of 30kmph
– Each bike will have a mileage of at least 65km per charge
– These bikes will also have GPS
– Self-start vehicle with drum brake and has at least 3 years of warranty
